To be realistic, you are not truly able to live without an agenda. The moment you start to think about what you want to do, you have an agenda.  Even if it’s a short-term agenda, like where you want to go for lunch with a friend, there’s an agenda.
And with so much that we want to do, goals to reach, work we have to get done, and people we want to spend time with, living without an agenda can be tricky.  Just making plans with a friend involves an agenda.

 

What if it was possible to lighten that agenda?  Even live without it for a day, a week, or a month and just see what happens.  If you feel like your life is controlled by an agenda, then it may be time to give it up for a bit and let the wind take you where it will.  Here are a few things to consider about living an agenda-free life.
Can you live stress-free? Yes, you can.  You can choose how you want to respond to stressful situations.  Do you want to control your emotions or do you want to let your emotions control you?  An agenda-free life would mean not allowing stress and guilt to control what you do, when you do it, or how you do it.

Can you live without purpose?  When you don’t feel like you have purpose, it can lead to depression and anxiety.  Having purpose means setting goals, making plans, and working with other people to successfully achieve those goals.  All of that includes having an agenda, at least to some degree.  The key is finding a balance between working towards your goals and leaving enough unscheduled time to just enjoy life.  Just enjoying life is definitely part of your purpose.

Can you live without having to rush everywhere? Absolutely!  We have created lives that are so busy and overbooked that we’re constantly running from one thing to the next, usually late, without any time to stop and enjoy the moment.  Even if you’re not able to live agenda-free, it may be time to lighten your agenda to give yourself some breathing room.

Living an agenda-free life may not be completely possible, yet lightening that agenda to include more empty, unfilled space, is definitely possible.  In the long-run, you will be happier, experience less stress, and enjoy more of life’s little moments.  Take a moment to loosen up your agenda today and see how it feels.  One tiny step at a time.
