Tolerating things that don’t belong in your life can steal your energy and make it difficult for you to function successfully. You can’t live a happy and fulfilling life when you’re spending your energy on things that shouldn’t be tolerated. Sometimes you need to stand up and refuse them.
If you’ve been tolerating the wrong things for far too long, here are a few things to stop tolerating in your life now:
A negative attitude
Happiness is a choice. If you choose to be unhappy, you’ll find dozens of reasons to complain. Choose to be happy and you’ll find dozens of reasons to smile.
Drama circles
Don’t get caught up in circles of judgement and gossip. Don’t give in to the negativity and drama that may surround you. Stay positive. Give people a piece of your heart instead of a piece of your mind. Life is too short to be spent stirring up trouble for no reason.
Self-deprecating thoughts
If you feel like other people aren’t treating you with love and respect, check your thoughts. Have you subconsciously put yourself down? Because you’re the one who tells other people what you’re worth by showing them what you are willing to accept. If you don’t value and respect yourself, no one else will either.
A present life preoccupied with a painful past
The first step to living the life you want is leaving the life you don’t want behind. Letting go of any past pains is your first step towards finding happiness. Learn from your regrets, yet do not punish yourself for them. You can put the hammer away!
Being too busy to appreciate life’s joys
It’s hard to forget pain, yet it can sometimes be even harder to remember life’s joy. We don’t have scars for happiness. And times of bliss are rarely remembered, unless we are mindfully present in the moment. Surround yourself with beauty by noticing it all around you. Take a few minutes daily to think of 5 things that are a blessing in your life right now.
Expectations of perfection
Life will never be absolutely perfect, no matter how hard you try. You will never be able to achieve absolute perfection. There will always be moments of doubt; there will always be days where nothing goes as planned. But even the most imperfect situations can be made better with love and laughter.
Feeling guilty for not being able to do it all
How freeing would it be to not have guilt over the things you “should” be doing? While it’s healthy to work diligently on goals that are meaningful, don’t berate yourself for not doing more than you’re able to. Find a balance between doing and being. Learn to let go and relax when you need a break.
Life is full of change! Growth is optional. Choose your thoughts, feelings, and actions wisely, starting right now. Stop tolerating what shouldn’t be tolerated. Let today be the first day of the rest of your new life.
